Dr. SHIJU ABRAHAM

Dr. Shiju Abraham is an Assistant Professor of Physics at St. Pius X College, Rajapuram, affiliated with Kannur University, Kerala, India, where he has been serving since October 2019. Prior to joining academia in India, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel, gaining valuable international research experience.
He earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Banaras Hindu University in 2016, with a specialization in two-dimensional (2D) materials, particularly graphene and its derivatives. His doctoral research contributed to the understanding of the unique physical properties and applications of advanced nanomaterials. He was a visiting fellow at different German Institutes during his Ph.D. tenure (Max Planck Institute of Solid State Research, Stuttgart; Institute of Physical Chemistry, Friedrich-Schiller-University, Jena; Faculty of Chemistry, University of Duisburg, Essen; School of Engineering and Science, Jacobs University, Bremen and Institute of Photonic Technology, Jena).
Dr. Abraham’s current research lies at the intersection of biophysics, surface science, and nanotechnology. His work focuses on understanding the self-assembly of lipid bilayers on solid surfaces, investigating surface fouling mechanisms, and exploring phage–bacteria interactions. He employs advanced nanoscale characterization techniques, particularly Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), to study biological and physicochemical processes at interfaces with high spatial resolution.
Driven by a passion for interdisciplinary research, Dr. Abraham seeks to bridge fundamental physics with biological systems, contributing to emerging areas in biomaterials, microbial interactions, and surface engineering.

I'm Dr. Shiju Abraham, presently an Asst. Prof. of Physics at St. Pius X College, Rajapuram (Kannur University), Kerala, India. Prior to this position, I was a post-doctoral researcher at Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. I completed my Ph.D. in Physics (2016) from Banaras Hindu University, India; specializing in 2D Materials (graphene and its derivatives). My current focus of research is in the interface of biophysics and surface science; specifically, studying the self-assembly of lipid bilayers on solid surfaces, various surface fouling mechanisms, phage-bacteria interactions, etc. by employing atomic force microscopy
